Trailer – Prisoners

9 Jun

Hugh Jackman, Terrence Howard and Jake Gyllenhaal star in Prisoners – a thriller about two missing 6 year old girls.  The film is directed by Denis Villeneuve (Polytechnique, Incendies).

After Keller Donner’s (Hugh Jackman) daughter and her best friend are kidnapped, a young detective (Jake Gyllenhaal) heads the investigation to find the girls.  He’s lead to Alex Jones (Paul Dano), but is forced to release him due to a lack of evidence. Believing that the girls are still alive, Donner kidnaps Jones, holds him captive, and will do anything to find out what he did to the girls and where they are.

I think from watching the trailer you’ll understand the characters’ motivations, but there’s definitely some hints as to how far Jackman’s character will go.  I started forming opinions on the characters and their ethically questionable behaviours right away.  I’m a big fan of Villeneuve because he doesn’t shy away from uncomfortable and sensitive topics.  It’s obvious that Prisoners will have some great performances and I’m curious to see how audiences will react.
