Liam Neeson signs on for Taken 3

25 Jun

Liam Neeson has just signed on to star in Taken 3. Apparently the deciding factor for Neeson is the $20 million paycheque he’ll get for reprising his role as Bryan Mills, a retired CIA operative and overprotective father. Attention will now turn to Maggie Grace and Famke Janssen to see if they will reprise their roles as Mills daughter and ex-wife.

Taken 3’s script will be written by Luc Besson (Taken 1 and 2, The Transporter movies) and Robert Mark Kamen (The Transporter movies, The Karate Kid movies). Both writers have a tendency to carry on writing sequels long after audiences want them too. For those of you that have seen the Taken movies, you’ll agree with me. The first Taken movie was pretty awesome; Taken 2 was considerably worse.

Don’t worry thoughI’m sure Taken 3 will rival the creative writing that Besson did for Transporter 3 and that Kamen did for The Karate Kid 3.

Magic Mike 2?

magic mike 12 Channing Tatum Offers Details On Magic Mike 2

If only male strippers could look and dance like this.

Magic Mike, a dramedy about a group of male strippers, was the surprise hit of summer 2012 and it grossed over 154 million dollars – not bad considering the budget was roughly 7 million dollars. Like with any successful movie, the studio and producers have decided to make a sequel. The sequel will follow the group of male strippers as they reunite for a road trip. With Steven Soderbergh taking an indefinite break from film-making, there’s been speculation that Channing Tatum will direct the sequel.

Channing Tatum has been growing on me over the past year. He was funny in 21 Jump Street and surprisingly sympathetic as an aging male stripper in Magic Mike, but I think if he directs the sequel it’ll be a bad career move.

Yes, he’ll be directing his first movie, yet it seems highly unlikely that Magic Mike 2 will be as successful as the original. If he’s going to try directing, Tatum should do something completely original that isn’t going to be compared to its predecessor.

What do you think? Should Channing Tatum take a chance and direct Magic Mike 2?
