Magic Mike 2?

magic mike 12 Channing Tatum Offers Details On Magic Mike 2

If only male strippers could look and dance like this.

Magic Mike, a dramedy about a group of male strippers, was the surprise hit of summer 2012 and it grossed over 154 million dollars – not bad considering the budget was roughly 7 million dollars. Like with any successful movie, the studio and producers have decided to make a sequel. The sequel will follow the group of male strippers as they reunite for a road trip. With Steven Soderbergh taking an indefinite break from film-making, there’s been speculation that Channing Tatum will direct the sequel.

Channing Tatum has been growing on me over the past year. He was funny in 21 Jump Street and surprisingly sympathetic as an aging male stripper in Magic Mike, but I think if he directs the sequel it’ll be a bad career move.

Yes, he’ll be directing his first movie, yet it seems highly unlikely that Magic Mike 2 will be as successful as the original. If he’s going to try directing, Tatum should do something completely original that isn’t going to be compared to its predecessor.

What do you think? Should Channing Tatum take a chance and direct Magic Mike 2?

So on the same page with you here. I agree it’s inevitable that Channing Tatum will end up directing – I think it’s become pretty obvious he’s intent on being a triple threat… actor, director, producer – but this is not the story to pick as his directorial debut. I wish he’d look at Ben Affleck as an aspirational example (and I really never thought I would ‘Affleck’ and ‘aspirational’ in the same sentence!).

I agree, I never thought anyone would point to Affleck as someone to model after, but he has improved over the last several years.

I agree it is a bad decision to direct Magic Mike 2, but lets be honest, just making Magic Mike 2 is a bad decision. I don’t think I can take another summer of people talking about Magic Mike like it is some sort of gift to the people. It is right up there with 50 Shades of Grey. I have a stack of romance novels that are naughtier and better written. I loath the day that becomes a movie. VOMIT. It is only ground breaking smut to prudes who won’t read/watch things unless they are accepted by the main stream.

    Less directing, more stripping.
