The Black Panther

8 Jun

Oh yehhhh! According to rumors, Marvel has given the go ahead for production to start on a Black Panther movie. Created by Jack Kirby and Stan Lee in 1966, Black Panther is the first black superhero in mainstream American comics.

Black Panther (T’Challa) hails from the African nation of Wakanda, where he rules the country and is chief of various tribes. Over the years, Black Panther has adventures with The X-Men, Fantastic Four and The Avengers.

It’s exciting that this movie might actually happen.  There’s been talk of a Black Panther movie since the late 1990s when Wesley Snipes was attached to the project.  A few names thrown around for the role including Chiwetel Ejiofor (Redbelt, Serenity), John Boyega (Attack the Block) and Anthony Mackie (The Hurt Locker).  I think the best person for the role would be Chiwetel Ejiofor.  Boyega is far too young and Mackie doesn’t have presence.  Idrias Elba would be a great choice, but he already has a recurring role in the Thor movies.
