Distractions

6 Jun

When you go to the theatre, there can be a lot of distractions – people talking during the movie, checking their cell phones, arriving late, walking in and out…etc. Though these behaviors are annoying, lately what’s been distracting me at the theatre are mistakes in movies. Sometimes the mistakes are real and other times just personal preference. If the acting is amazing you can usually overlook minor problems. If the acting sucks you’re going to be relying on atmosphere and the plot to keep you entertained.

The reason I get distracted is because I’m an adult now. When you’re a kid, hell even if you’re a teenager, you don’t see movie plot holes or problems. Last year, I watched The Princess Bride and noticed for the first time that the swamp rats were not puppets, but grown men in rat suits crawling on all fours! How could I have missed that? Another example would be The Wizard of Oz. The cowardly lion at one point sings about the Sphinx being the seventh wonder of the world. Umm…it’s not the seventh wonder – the Pyramid of Giza is. Little things like that annoy me.

The above is not a puppet, but an actor in desperate need of a job.

Sometimes I’m just being petty and other times there’s genuinely a problem. The Hunger Games is a perfect example of what I perceive to be a real problem – bad casting – and then me just being a jerk. Even the most devoted HG fan has to admit that there were things that didn’t fit in the movie adaptation. For example, Gale is too handsome, too clean-cut and too physically fit. In the books, Gale’s described as being handsome, but really Liam Hemsworth?  Aren’t these people supposed to be on the verge of starvation? Maybe they should ask Gale where he buys his protein powder and energy bars.

On the nit-picking side, I can’t get over how big Katniss’ (Jennifer Lawrence) head is, especially compared to Peeta (Josh Hutcherson). Just couldn’t stop myself from staring at her head.

Now that I’ve ranted, I want to know what irritates you guys? It can be a specific example or something in general.

Before we get started I’m giving you more example. In Snow White and the Hunstman, Snow White (Kristen Stewart) becomes more beautiful than evil queen Ravenna (Charlize Theron). So as the fairytale goes, the Queen wants Snow White dead. In what world would Kristen Stewart be more beautiful than Charlize Theron?  Is it the same world where Kristen Stewart is a decent actress?
